Tell us little about how you met, the history, the proposal!
Initially we met playing mixed netball, then 3 years later we had a chance meeting on a train (Kat says it was better to sit with Michael than a stranger). About a year of talking, morning train rides and text messages and we started dating.
Michael had a few plans to propose but Kat was too busy preparing for a worlds cheerleading competition so was never home and kept brushing off Michaels date ideas. One night Michael came home from parent teacher interviews in a suit mind you and told Kat he had a surprise (I thought it was food- I’d just been to the gym and was hungry), that surprise was a beautiful engagement ring, and so in the lounge room Michael popped the question.
How did you find the wedding planning process? Any tips and tricks you’d like to pass on to others trying to navigate wedding planning and Covid restrictions?
Adam and Julia from Mewburn park made the whole process amazingly simple. We decided to go with all local vendors and this was our saving grace when we had to postpone, it meant everyone was more than happy to change dates.
Our tips are:
Have a backup plan and a back up to the back up. We had 3 different invite list dependent on what the restrictions looked like
Consider a mid week wedding if you need to postpone
Stay with local suppliers (makes navigating restrictions on travel easier)
Decide if an intimate (i.e. 4 people) wedding is for you, for us it wasn’t and that made our decision to postpone easier
Video calls are a life saver!
What was most important to you to include in your day? Was there anything personal you wanted to highlight?
For us it was having Kat’s mum who has had a stroke walk her down the isle. She worked tirelessly with her physio to make this happen and we are so proud!
Tell us about:
Dress & Suits
Dress- The stunning Bec gown was from the team at Amante Bridal in Warragul. A lovely little boutique that made the experience again so easy. As soon as I put it on I knew it was the one.
Suits- Were from Myer, we are very lucky Michael has a great eye for fashion
The Ceremony and Reception Venue
We had both ceremony and reception at the amazing Mewburn Park. We chose the stables as the backdrop for our ceremony which gave the country charm we were looking for. You also can’t go past the beautiful clear view marquee which feels so magical at night with all the fairy lights.
Vows
We wrote our own vows with the help of our Celebrant Evie Wilson from Peace and Love Ceremonies. They were the perfect mix of funny moments and love and really showed our personalities.
Favourite moments
How do we pick!
Kat arriving in her grandads MG
The first look and Kat’s mum walking her down the isle
Walking back through a stream of confetti as we celebrated being husband and wife
Dancing the night away with all of our closest family and friends
Anything else, surprises, standouts you would like to share!
We held Trivia at our Reception on details about our relationship and it was so much fun. Some of the answers were hilarious that our family and friends came up with.
